Act Now Hawai'i to Preserve Affordable Housing, Clean Water, and Jobs
Some of the people pictured above are a few of the many, through state programs and grants supported by the Rental Housing Trust Fund, Land Conservation Fund, and Natural Area Reserve Fund, who are working hard to preserve our drinking water, affordable housing, jobs, local farms and family ranches, public health, cultural resources, watersheds, and oceans. They're taking action every day to improve Hawai’i, from mauka to makai, from our homes to our communities.
However, funding for many of these programs is at risk. Funding comes from the Hawai‘i Conveyance Tax – a tax that is collected when landowners sell land. Due to the poor economy, land sales have dropped, leaving these programs cut by more than 50%, more than double any other program in the State. Already these programs have cut back significantly, leaving many operating at the bare bones minimum. Now the legislature is targeting these already diminished funds, which would lead to the end of many of these vital programs which support our communities statewide on every island.
But with your help during this upcoming legislative session, we’ll make sure this funding continues to support our economy by going where it’s needed most; to perpetuating all the things that make Hawai'i, Our Home for present and future generations. It’s our shared kuleana. Act Now and Join Us.
